International Coordination. In Vitro Fertilisation.
In Vitro Fertilisation in Spain consists in stimulating the ovaries with a hormone treatment to obtain a higher number of oocytes. When the follicles are mature, the oocytes are removed from the ovaries by means of trans-vaginal follicular puncture, fertilised in the laboratory and then transferred to the uterus. If necessary, the oocytes can be fertilised using ICSI (sperm microinjection). This technique consists in inserting a spermatozoon into each oocyte using a microscope so that the fusion of both gametes can lead to pregnancy.
We suggest that you undergo the following tests in your country:
- Blood test (HIV, hepatitis B and C, syphilis)
- Hormone test (FSH, LH, oestradiol and prolactine). This test must be carried out between the 2nd and 4th day of your period.
What is the procedure?
You have the possibility to start the stimulation in your country and come to Murcia for the last stage of the process. You can have the first scans done in your country and then send the results to your coordinator. She will present them to the doctor in charge of your case, who will study them and give you new instructions. In this way you will have to stay in Murcia for a week only. Or, if you prefer, you can have your stimulation monitored in our clinic: in such a case, you should stay here for about two weeks.
IVF is a day-hospital procedure. You will not have to stay at the clinic overnight.
The chances of success greatly depend on several factors, especially the quality of sperm, the condition of the uterus, and, above all, the age of the recipient and the state of her ovarian reserve. The woman is born with all the oocytes she will ever produce. At puberty, menstrual cycles begin and the number of oocytes reduces gradually. When there are no oocytes left, menopause starts and the menstrual cycles stop. Your oocytes are the same age as you. If you are over 40, your oocytes may be altered or be of insufficient quality.
Those patients with oocytes of insufficient quality or in menopause will have to resort to In Vitro Fertilisation with donor eggs.
